Information Sharing: Core Requirements

CSM has defined and developed the requirements for an effective information sharing program. Technology is not the answer to the information sharing problem, but just one part of the solution. There are five pieces which are essential for any program to work.

1. Governance – With the amount of sharing that has to take place, there needs to be a board that will make decisions and oversee the handling of any issues that come up.

2. Data – All data needs to be shared. In order for an information sharing program to work, there must be no exception to this rule unless deemed critical by the Governance board.

3. Security – The system must be secure to protect the data.

4. Technology – Technology has to make the system usable and helpful.

5. Evaluation – Only through continuous evaluation of the users of the system and data being put into the system by those users can it be determined that the system is being used to its full potential and all partners are contributing equally.
